SEO Tools and Internet Marketing Software of Choice

seo tools and softwareSEO is not a one step simple process. There are many tools that are used for both onsite and offsite SEO functions today as well as checking on competitors. Some of the tools I use overlap into others and some are free while others do require an investment.

I find that the free usually means limited in some way or another but that is not always the case. That being said sometimes you get what you pay for and other times you do not, you get less.

Luckily many of the providers of the different paid software’s do have refund policies of either 30 days or more, so take advantage of that if you need to.

Firefox Plugins

YSlow for Firefox – Use this plugin to check on your page load times. It will help you find where you need improvements.

Rank Checker Plugin for Firefox – This plugin works well, but it does not track your keywords for more then the day you perform a search.

SEO Quake Plugin for Firefox – Use this plugin to check on your sites parameters. Items such as keyword density, total words and many other functions can be done using this plugin.

Firebug Plugin for Firefox – This plugin is for checking site errors. If you have htm, css and scripts it will tell you about any issues on your pages.

WordPress Plugins

W3 Total Cache (Reduces Page Load Times) – Use this along with the Yslow plugin for firefox and you can lower your page load times by a significant amount in a short amount of time.

Platinum SEO (Improves SEO Quality Score) – This plugin lets you control SEO titles for your blogs home page, other pages and any posts. You can write a unique title for each post for the search engines, control the meta description and meta keywords as well. I am surprised that WordPress has not incorporated this into the wordpress software.

Pretty Link Lite – This plugin will help those who do affiliate marketing. You can hide your affiliate links and make them pretty for both the viewer of your site as well as the search engines.

Shareaholic (For Social Sharing) – Every site needs some sort of social sharing. This is my go to plugin for my sites. I like the way it setups, and the look.

Keyword Research

Google Keyword Tool (Free Tool) – Find Relevant and Targeted Keywords for any Niche.

Traffic Travis (Free Version Available) – Perform a health check on your website, uncover technical mistakes, keep tabs on competitors, monitor rankings, and find link partners.

Market Samurai (14 Day Trial) – A precision tool to help you select the good keywords to build a site around. This tool will help you narrow down a keyword list from 1000’s to a small list relevant to your niche.

Rank Tracking

Market Samurai (Free for 30 Keywords After Purchase) – If you buy this tool they allow you to track the rankings of 30 different keywords for multiple URLs. If you need to track more they have subscriptions for this.

Rank Tracker (Free although it does not save a project) – I use this tool for tracking the keywords I am ranking for. You can also use it to track competitors rankings as well. It does require the use of proxies if you are doing a lot of tracking but the good thing is it will scrape some for you if you do not have your own. For captchas I just input them manually as I think Link Assistant charges too much to do this automatically.

Rank Checker Plugin for Firefox (Free unlimited keywords) – Like I said above, this plugin works very well but it does not track variations in rankings from day to day.

SEOmoz (30 Day Free Trial) – A great suite of tools, from tracking rankings, to watching your link building, and also spying on competitors.  Overall this it is a bit pricey.

Backlink Checking

SEO Spyglass (Free Version Available) – This tool is also part of the SEO Powersuite of tools or can be aquired on its own like the others. This tool will find your backlinks, their anchor text and the PR of the site and page where the link is located. SEO Spyglass also lets you find your competitors backlinks so you know what kind of links you need etc. to hopefully outrank them.

Majestic SEO (Free Version) – You can access a bunch of data about your site and its backlinks but the keyword is your sites. If you verify that you own a site you can aquire a list of your links, but you can not check on your competitors and do any research using the free version.

SEOmoz (30 Day Free Trial) – You can use this suite of tools for many things and finding your backlinks is one of the best or you can also use it to see what your competitors are up to.

On Site SEO

SEO Quake Plugin (Great for checking keyword density, external and internal links, and a whole array of other data

Firebug Plugin – Checks for css and html errors, and also you can perform site load time checks and it will provide the necessary data so you know what needs changed.

Website Auditor (Free Version Available – Does not save projects) This tool is also combined into the SEO Powersuite line of tools. It will do a audit of your site to find places of improvments or refinement. It does not provide a comprehensive analysis though unless you combine it with other tools.

Link Building Tools

Ultimate Demon $50 Discount – Tool of choice for building good quality links to web 2.0, wikis, bookmarks, press releases and article directories. This tool is dangerous if used inappropriately.

GSA Search Engine Ranker (Free 5 Day Trial) – I am not sure when this tool was first released but I would give it the “Best Tool of 2013 to Date Award”. Great for building out high level tier links to your tier 1 manual sites.

GSA Captcha Breaker – This tool is necessary if you want to utilize GSA Search Engine Ranker to its fullest. If you do not use this and use a captcha solving service you are going to go broke.  So far this program has solved more then 200,000 captchas for me.

Fight Back Network ($1 for 5 Day Trial) – If you want to create niche relevant backlinks on sites that have unique content this is a great tool. You can link directly to your money sites or to any other site you like. If you ever have an issue with any links there is a button to delete any posts from within, so managing your links on other sites is made simple. Learn How I Build my own Link Network and Use The Fight Back Network.

SenukeXcr – (14 Day Free Trial) – Great tool, used it for years before Ultimate Demon came around as my go to tool. Works great and allows for some complex link building on autopilot using its built in templating system.

Link Assistant (Free Version Available) – This is another tool included in the SEO Powersuite toolset. Need to find link partners, this tool will help you find and manage it all in one place.

Social ADR (Free & Paid Accounts) – Get links from all kinds of social sites. Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Pinterest, Stumbleupon and many others. I use this daily to help build link variety.  You can drip links over days, weeks, months using Social ADR.  Start with a free account and upgrade as you need as they have many levels designed for all types of needs.

Social Media

Shareaholic WordPress Plugin  for social sharing (Free)

Buzzbundle (Free Version Available) – Comes from the developers of SEO Powersuite. This is the perfect tool for engaging with your audience through social media, blogs and forums. This tool works a bit like Google Alerts but puts all you need in one location.

Creating Content

The Best Spinner ($7 for a 7 Day Trial)– My go to tool for rewriting articles, article spinning.

Instant Article Wizard ($7 for a 7 Day Trial)– This tool certainly simplifies the process of researching a new article. Plugin your keywords and let it find resources that you can use to create unique articles. Team it up with the best spinner and you have a great team.

Kontent Machine (7 Day Free Trial) – This tool generates some serious content. It will scrape, mash and spin. You can use your own articles, it will scrape from multiple locations and also will mash your articles with scraped content. Need to insert your links, or images or videos, this tool does that as well.  How about posting directly to your own blogs? Well this tool does that as well.  Talk about a comprehensive tool.

Logo Creator – Excellent piece of software to create amazing logos for your websites or images of any kind.  I use this for each and every site anymore.  Never have to pay for outsourcing or to buy images for by blog posts.  The creator of this software upgrades it, he also creates add ons that are pretty cool as well.  Take a peek to see what I am talking about here.

Spin Rewriter (5 Day Free Trial) – Great spinning tool, and its available from anywhere you have an internet connection. Their spinner creates some wonderful spins, with just a small amount of editing needed after just a push of a couple of buttons. If you want to spin PLR content this would be a superb tool to do this. You can upload a file of articles and let the software do its thing.  Give it a free trial here.

Spun Article Suppliers

Article Builder – This product by Jon Leger is not cheap by any means but it does still work.  Article Builder generates quality content that is human readable by combining sentences from many different articles into one article.  You are also able to create super spins that you can use when building links with Senuke Xcr or Ultimate Demon.  Actually I noticed that using Article Builder in GSA is now also available but I have not tried this yet as I still love Kontent Machine (read how I generate unique content using it here). Also available are many different topics, probably over 100 now so finding articles for your niche is pretty easy here.  Content from article builder is not good enough for a money site, but for your tier 1’s, tier 2’s etc. it works and gets indexed.  If you need content this is a good choice still and its a one time fee for a year that comes with a 30 day refund policy. Hosting

Hostgator (Starts at $3.96 a month) – I have used hostgator for my hosting ever since I first begun my journey into internet marketing back in 2006. They are secure and I find the site load times to be very good.  Shared hosting I feel is much faster then other kinds, unless you go dedicated since the hosting provider seems to use their newest hardware on the largest part of their business first.

Hostnine – I have used hostnine for quite a few years as it is cheap seo hosting if there is such a thing. They allow you to put sites onto servers in 3 different locations in the USA as well as other locations such as Britain, Singapore, Amsterdam. By allowing us to do this it does give IP diversity with much ease.

Other Hosting – Bluehost and Hostmonster are a couple of others I use for my link networks. I use these and a few others so I can maintain not only IP diversity but nameserver diversity.

Proxies

BuyProxies.org – Best Semi Dedicated Proxies I have ever used.  I purchased the 20 semi dedicated proxies and never looked back.  They are replaced every month and work for $1 per proxy.

WordPress Software

WP Desktop – I use this software to install my wordpress blogs.  It allows me to create templates that have my plugins and themes all setup.  I select the setup I wish to install and with a couple clicks my new wordpress site is installed.  It also allows me to update all my blogs, their plugins and wordpress versions from one location without having to login to each and every wordpress site I have.  This software also has some other great additions so please check it out here.

If you have some suggestions for me to try out please share them in the comments section below. I am always on the lookout for the newest and best tools as in SEO it is always changing. If I try them and like them I will definitely add them to this list.

If you like video tutorials you may like these I made here.

  1. You know, every different site about SEO recommends so many different things. Is there a place where everyone agrees on this stuff or what?

    Just call me confused!

  2. You created a good list here Dwight. Thanks! Found it quite helpful as I have no money to subscribe to products so the freebies are great.
