It’s never too early to start saving money or learn about sustainability. That’s why DIY expert Erica Domesek, behind the lifestyle brand @psimadethis, is sharing an easy DIY piggy bank for kids from her new book “P.S. We Made This,” that uses common items you probably already have in your house.
"This is one of my favorite projects in the book,” says Erica. Not only is this craft super-cute, it can also help teach children about financial literacy.
Here are step-by-step instructions:
What You Need
-Old Oatmeal Container
-Egg Carton
-Construction Paper
-Tin Foil
-Cotton Balls, Stickers + Other Decorations
How to Make
1. Wrap construction paper around the oatmeal container.
2. Cut a slit on top for money.
3. Use egg carton “feet” or tin foil balls to make “legs.”
4. Decorate to your liking!
Erica and her niece Hannah decorated their money banks to resemble a pig and a shark. In addition to using stickers, they used foam to make the pig’s ears and the shark’s fin.
