Bo Bichette predicted to ditch Blue Jays, sign huge deal with AL powerhouse

Bo Bichette Could Leave Blue Jays for Tigers

The Toronto Blue Jays may face a major roster change this offseason, as star shortstop Bo Bichette is projected to reach free agency with a potential $200 million valuation. After narrowly missing out on the World Series title by just one game and one run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team enters a pivotal period for its future.

Bleacher Report analyst Joel Reuter suggested that the Detroit Tigers could emerge as a serious contender for Bichette if the Blue Jays fail to act aggressively in negotiations.

"The Detroit Tigers were a popular speculative landing spot for Alex Bregman last offseason, but their biggest addition ended up being Gleyber Torres on a one-year, $15 million deal," Reuter noted. "As he gets set to depart for what will likely be a multi-year deal this winter, the Tigers could again make a run at signing Bregman, but another infielder might be an even better fit."

Bichette, who turns 28 on March 5, bounced back from a disappointing 2024 season to produce elite numbers this year — batting .311 with a .357 on-base percentage, .483 slugging, 44 doubles, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs across 139 games.

While Toronto likely has the resources to retain its homegrown star, it remains uncertain whether the front office will commit to a contract exceeding the $200 million threshold.

Author’s Summary

Bo Bichette’s resurgence puts him in line for a massive free-agent contract, with the Tigers seen as a top destination if the Blue Jays hesitate to spend big.
