Corporal Punishment Debate
Different opinions have been raised during the national conversation on corporal punishment.
The Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) is pushing for the reintroduction of corporal punishment as a disciplinary measure.
FTA General Secretary Paula Manumanunitoga says teachers are being sworn at, objects thrown at them, and female teachers are being abused.
Manumanunitoga notes that these issues were previously limited to secondary schools but are now also occurring in primary schools.
He adds that parents are not fulfilling their roles in disciplining their children.
