Netflix announced on Tuesday via its Tudum platform that Xolo Maridueña, known for his roles in "Cobra Kai" and "Blue Beetle," will play Portgas D. Ace in the third season of the live-action adaptation of "One Piece."
Ace is one of the most popular and complex characters from Eiichiro Oda’s manga and anime. He is the older adopted brother of the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and wields the power of the Flame-Flame Fruit, which grants him control over fire. His introduction marks the series’ transition to more emotional and action-driven storylines.
Netflix described Ace as “one of the most beloved characters in the ‘One Piece’ universe.” The role represents a pivotal moment in the live-action series, as it explores some of the manga’s most heartfelt arcs.
His casting aligns with Netflix’s approach to feature young talent with strong international appeal.
Matt Owens told Variety that introducing Ace has been a long-term goal for the creative team.
Maridueña’s role as Ace is expected to deepen the emotional stakes of the live-action “One Piece” and attract a wider audience.
The addition of Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace signals Netflix’s commitment to expanding “One Piece” with emotional depth and dynamic storytelling through popular, youthful talent.
