Longtime Nine weather presenter Livinia Nixon, who began her on-air journey on Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, is stepping away from her nightly weather duties after two decades. She will, however, continue appearing in the travel programs Getaway and Postcards.
At 50, Nixon reflected on her lengthy broadcasting career and the decision to make more time for her family. Her youngest son, Ted, is entering high school alongside his older brother, Henry.
“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a laugh. “I’m looking forward to a breather.”
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything, but this is the right decision for me.”
“When I discussed it with our boys, they said, ‘We’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Nixon sees stepping back as a way to rediscover balance while still maintaining her connection with viewers through travel content. She described working in television as both a privilege and a defining part of her professional identity.
Among her notable experiences, Nixon recalled reporting from Healesville Sanctuary while a green tree python coiled around her neck.
“The snake wrapped, squeezed, and then tried to slither into my jacket — I’d never read the weather so quickly in my life.”
Livinia Nixon ends her 20-year run as Nine’s weather presenter to dedicate more time to family, continuing her journey on travel shows with positivity and gratitude.
