After two decades as one of Melbourne's most admired weather presenters, Livinia Nixon has announced that she will step down from her role on 9News Melbourne to focus on her family. Her final weather broadcast will air on Tuesday, November 18.
Livinia joined the Nine Network in 1997 and became the main weather presenter for 9News Melbourne in 2004. After 20 years in the role, she said it was time to devote more attention to her sons as they enter their senior school years.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family.”
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Although she will leave her nightly weather duties, Livinia will continue her long-standing involvement with the Nine Network through her ongoing presenting work on Australia’s popular travel programs Getaway and Postcards.
