Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited from Dubai to Miami to face attempted murder charges related to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, authorities confirmed.
Miami Police announced on Thursday that 37-year-old Brown arrived in Miami after being transported through Newark, New Jersey, where he was booked into Essex County Jail. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed his arrival earlier the same day.
A warrant was issued for Brown in June, charging him with attempted murder involving a firearm. The incident occurred on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street, outside the event venue.
An off-duty officer providing event security reported hearing gunfire and then witnessing Brown engaged in a physical altercation in the parking lot.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh,” said Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega.
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
During the time Brown was evading authorities, Miami Police noted he posted videos from Dubai, seemingly confident he would avoid arrest.
Antonio Brown’s extradition marks a crucial step as Miami law enforcement pursues accountability regardless of a suspect’s status or location.
