Former NFL star Antonio Brown was extradited from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the United States to face trial for an attempted murder charge related to a shooting in Miami earlier this year, Miami police confirmed on Thursday.
Brown, 37, is currently held in Essex County, New Jersey, while awaiting another extradition to Miami-Dade County, according to Miami police. The exact time of his apprehension and transfer to Miami-Dade has not been disclosed.
“This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police detectives, working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami,” police said in a statement.
The attempted murder charge is linked to a May 16 shooting that took place during a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross. Brown’s social media showed he had been residing in Dubai for several months prior to the extradition.
Authorities had not disclosed if they were planning extradition before Brown was taken into custody.
