The NHS has issued a “flu jab SOS” as England’s Chief Nursing Officer urges the public to get vaccinated now, with the worst of the flu season just weeks away.
Eligible adults are encouraged to receive their flu vaccination promptly to ensure full protection before the peak flu season in winter. This year, flu cases have surged early, hitting the NHS over a month sooner than usual, with infection rates three times higher than the same period last year.
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months. It’s a quick and easy painless injection and it really will help you keep yourself and your family well through winter.”
Since the vaccination campaign started, NHS teams have administered over 13 million flu vaccines nationwide (13,299,775). In Sussex alone, 428,297 people—43.7% of the eligible population—have been vaccinated so far.
