Rookie guard Will Richard delivered a breakout performance for the Golden State Warriors in his first NBA start on Wednesday night. The former University of Florida standout scored 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including five three-pointers, along with seven rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes. Despite his efforts, the Warriors fell 121–116 to the Sacramento Kings.
Richard had not appeared in the previous two Warriors games, which the team split 1–1. Due to injuries sidelining key players Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, coach Steve Kerr added Richard to the starting lineup — a move that quickly paid off.
“He’s shown he’s an NBA player,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “The experience, the poise – he doesn’t turn it over, he makes the right play. This guy’s a hell of a player.”
When asked about his 30-point performance after the game, Richard downplayed personal stats, focusing instead on the team’s effort and execution.
On the opposing side, Sacramento was led by veteran Russell Westbrook, who logged his 204th career triple-double — the most in NBA history — with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Warriors, now 5–4, move on to face the Denver Nuggets next at 10 p.m.
Will Richard impressed with 30 points in his first NBA start for the Warriors, earning praise from Steve Kerr and signaling a promising rookie campaign.
