First Alert Weather: Cool and mainly dry today, and tracking our first chance for snow next week

First Alert Weather: Cool and Mainly Dry Today

We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have died down and this morning we’re experiencing some passing lake rain showers. Rain chances should end by the afternoon, leading to partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-40s.

Winds Update

Winds are calmer today, with the strongest gusts around 20 MPH. Tomorrow, wind speeds will increase ahead of another front, bringing gusts up to 30 MPH and rain expected in the afternoon and evening.

Weekend Forecast

Saturday will be cool and cloudy, with calmer winds. On Sunday, a low-pressure system will move through, bringing rain and snow to nearby areas across the lake.

Going into Sunday night, cold air will wrap around the system, giving us our first chance for snow. Higher elevations have the best chance to see flakes Sunday night.

Monday will bring a blast of cold Canadian air moving deep into the US, with some lake-effect snow possible as winds shift to the north. Tuesday offers an even better chance for lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario with northwest winds. Significant accumulations are not expected yet, but updates on timing and amounts will be provided in the coming days.

Temperatures will remain cold, with highs not surpassing the 30s on Monday and Tuesday.

Midweek Outlook

A clipper system will pass through Wednesday, bringing some rain and breezy winds.

Summary: Cool, mostly dry conditions prevail today with increasing wind and rain chances ahead. The first chance of snow arrives Sunday night, with cold air and lake-effect snow likely early next week.
