Chief Nurse Issues ‘Flu Jab SOS’ Appeal
England’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) has made an urgent appeal to everyone eligible for the flu vaccine to book their appointments as soon as possible before the peak of the season.
“It’s only weeks until the flu season reaches its worst. Those who qualify should arrange their vaccination promptly,” said the Chief Nursing Officer.
This warning follows comments from Duncan Burton, who noted that the current flu season began unusually early, with particularly high infection rates among children and young people.
Expanded Vaccination Access
NHS England announced that 2.4 million additional vaccination slots will become available next week. The program covers:
- People aged 65 and older
- Individuals under 65 in clinical risk groups
- Care home residents and their carers
- Pregnant women
- Close contacts of immunosuppressed individuals
- Frontline health and social care workers
- Children eligible under the vaccination program
Vaccination Progress and Data
According to weekly NHS England data, over 13 million flu jabs have been administered across the country since the campaign began in September. Additionally, 59.4% of care home residents have already received their vaccine, and 2.3 million eligible children have been vaccinated.
