Hockey Canada revealed a preview of the jerseys the Olympic teams will wear in Milan, sparking mixed reactions from fans ahead of the official unveiling.
The main point of contention among fans is the introduction of black into the color scheme. Some expressed confusion and disappointment over this choice:
“I’ve never seen Black on a Canadian Flag,” tweeted @CalderSnub22 on X.
“I’ll never understand the obsession of adding black to our color scheme,” said @kjc_2599 on X.
Though the full jersey design remains somewhat unclear, it appears the Olympic jerseys will feature thick black stripes on the sleeves and possibly a black maple leaf similar to the one worn in Beijing.
The Beijing team, which did not include NHL players, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sweden, leading some fans to expect a fresh look this time:
“So basically the same as the previous Olympic jerseys? Logos and strips look the same. Disappointing,” commented @curmudgeonaf.
The jerseys are set to be officially revealed on Thursday. If the teased design is confirmed, it would mark a shift from the mainly red and white jerseys worn at the recent 4 Nations Face-Off, where Team Canada secured a tournament win.
“It’s a shame because the 4 Nations jersey was elite,” remarked @DrCrackOfficial on X.
The jersey reveal has divided fans, with many uneasy about black’s prominence after recent successful appearances in traditional red and white.
The new jersey design shows a nostalgic nod to past Olympic styles, but fan concerns about color choices highlight how deeply tradition influences Canadian hockey pride.
