Annandale Tenant’s Poppy Masterpiece at St Editha’s Church

A moving display dedicated to remembrance and community spirit will take pride of place at St Editha’s Church this Remembrance Sunday. The artwork was created by Maureen, a 76-year-old tenant from Tamworth’s Annandale sheltered housing scheme.

With the help of her daughter and granddaughter, Maureen designed a striking poppy-themed art installation symbolising courage, sacrifice, and service. The piece will be exhibited at the church entrance, where Maureen will join the Mayor of Tamworth during the commemorative ceremony.

The project was developed in the communal lounge at Annandale, transforming the space into a creative hub filled with handmade poppies. Supported by Tamworth Borough Council’s Scheme Manager, Maureen turned her vision into a heartfelt tribute that also honors her own service background.

“It is an absolute honour to see this beautiful tribute come to life in Tamworth. Maureen’s dedication to remembering those who served, alongside her family’s involvement, is truly inspiring.”

— Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Chris Bains
