Charnwood lies in the heart of the region formed by Nottingham, Leicester, and Derby. Over one third of the borough’s 155,000 residents live in the vibrant university town of Loughborough.
As the town prepares to honour its fallen heroes on Remembrance Sunday, two touching poppy displays have been installed. The installations adorn trees in Queen’s Park and on the Forest Road Greenbelt, each tree decorated with around 6,500 hand-knitted poppies.
The initiative was organized by Loughborough in Bloom and the Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, supported by numerous local volunteers and community groups. The displays were completed in time for the Remembrance Sunday service scheduled in Queen’s Park on 9 November.
“This is a moving tribute to all those who have served our country and lost their lives in action,” said Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr David Northage. “I would like to thank everyone involved for knitting and installing the poppies, which create a wonderful centerpiece for this year’s service.”
“Loughborough in Bloom pays its respects each year to those in the armed forces who have served and sacrificed,” added Pat Cook, chair of Loughborough in Bloom. “It is fantastic to be able to decorate the trees with poppies again.”
The heartfelt poppy displays in Loughborough unite the community in remembrance, blending creativity and respect in a powerful tribute ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
