Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons, stepping down as the representative for Edmonton–Riverbend. The announcement was shared Thursday through a letter posted on social media, amid reports about his potential political shift. It comes shortly after another Conservative MP made headlines for crossing the floor.
“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives,” reads the letter. “Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”
Jeneroux added that his attention must now be devoted to his family and the responsibilities that come with it. His letter did not indicate the exact date of his resignation.
“For now, my focus must turn entirely to my family and to the responsibilities that come with that.”
According to a response post from Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader suggested that Jeneroux would continue serving in his role until 2026.
“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring,” wrote Poilievre.
Jeneroux, who has represented Edmonton–Riverbend since 2015, previously served in multiple shadow cabinet positions, including those related to health, housing, and infrastructure.
Matt Jeneroux resigns as MP for Edmonton–Riverbend, citing family priorities, while Pierre Poilievre confirms he will stay in the role until 2026.
