Edgar Wright recently hosted a private screening of his upcoming film “The Running Man” on the Paramount lot. The event attracted several prominent filmmakers, including Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, Ti West, Joseph Kosinski, Barry Jenkins, JT Mollner, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Joe Dante, and Walter Hill.
Speculation continues about Wright’s next project following “The Running Man.” It may be the anticipated “Baby Driver 2” or the planned “Barbarella” remake starring Sydney Sweeney. Wright’s previous film “Baby Driver” achieved major box-office success, grossing 227 million dollars from a 34 million dollar budget.
“There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists,” Wright said on the Discourse Podcast. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you — timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
The completed script does not yet have casting details. The original film featured Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza González, while Jon Bernthal is rumored to have a larger role in the sequel.
Wright is widely praised as a strong visual filmmaker, though some critics note a tendency toward playful and childish tones in his storytelling.
