Ricardo Pepi once again made a decisive impact off the bench, scoring a stoppage-time equalizer for PSV against Olympiacos on Tuesday. His goal secured a vital point for the Dutch side in the Champions League group stage.
This strike marked Pepi’s third goal in four appearances across all competitions, despite playing only 75 minutes total in those matches. PSV now sit on five points after four Champions League games.
The 93rd-minute goal came when PSV trailed 1–0 and seemed headed for defeat. After a free kick was cleared, the loose ball reached Pepi, who delivered a precise first-time finish to bring the game level at 1–1.
According to Opta, Pepi’s ability to deliver in decisive moments now places him among elite company.
“Pepi’s goal was his third result-changing goal in stoppage time of a Champions League match. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguero have matched that mark.”
So far this season, the American forward has scored three goals overall, including two in the Champions League. One of those came against Napoli, during a six-minute substitute appearance that produced both a goal and an assist.
Ricardo Pepi’s stoppage-time equalizer for PSV ties him with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguero for clutch Champions League goals in added time, highlighting his rising European profile.
