Electronic Arts will permanently close online services for four of its older AAA racing games on November 8th. These titles are Dirt 3, Dirt Showdown, Grid 2, and Grid Autosport. All were developed by Codemasters and released between 2011 and 2014 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
While the games will remain playable offline, EA will shut down the servers powering their online multiplayer features. This move follows their recent shutdown of Need for Speed: Rivals online services earlier in October.
There is also a possibility that two other titles, not yet announced, may join the list of games losing online support shortly.
“In recent months, EA has been making a more concentrated effort to wind down services for some of its older games.”
Though not unexpected, this decision disappoints fans hoping to revisit these multiplayer experiences.
EA's strategy reflects a growing trend of phasing out legacy game servers to focus resources on newer titles.
