"The Sopranos" alum Edie Falco eyes female superhero role

Edie Falco Eyes a Female Superhero Role

Actress Edie Falco shared that she is eager to take on the role of a female superhero, describing it as an exciting new challenge. Known for her Emmy-winning performances in "The Sopranos" and "Nurse Jackie," Falco said she has always been drawn to complex, layered characters.

“Never have I said I can’t do that,” she explained. “You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”

Falco emphasized that she finds joy in playing characters with depth and emotional nuance.

“I look for those complicated characters. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”

At 62, Falco reflected on her good fortune in portraying diverse and challenging women throughout her career.

“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated. I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”

She admitted that not being typecast early in her career may have helped her longevity as an actress.

“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”

Looking ahead, Falco expressed curiosity about portraying a political figure someday.

“Maybe I can get something out of my system,” she quipped.
