Practice Report: Dahlin Takes Leave of Absence
Following Friday’s practice at KeyBank Center, Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff announced that Rasmus Dahlin has taken a leave of absence to address a personal matter in Sweden. There is no set timeline for his return.
“I will say this, he said everything is OK, and through this, he’s got full support by our team,” Ruff said.
Dahlin had shared in September that his fiancée, Carolina, suffered heart failure over the summer and is currently recovering from a heart transplant.
“What this young man has gone through, I don’t think you can describe it and I don’t think you can feel what he’s feeling. I’m pretty passionate about the fact that no one would want to walk in his shoes and have to deal with what he’s dealt with. He’s undoubtedly got the support of everybody on this. This is larger than hockey.”
Additional Practice Updates
- Michael Kesselring rested during practice but is likely to play Saturday against the Hurricanes.
- Forward Jiri Kulich underwent further tests for fluid issues in his ears; results are pending, and he will continue to miss time.
- Jason Zucker, placed on injured reserve Nov. 4 due to illness, remains unwell and is not expected to travel for the upcoming game.

With Kesselring absent from practice, the team utilized alternate players in his place during drills.
