Alexis Black, a 32-year-old transgender woman from Los Angeles, gained national attention after an incident at Gold's Gym in Beverly Hills. On Sunday, singer Tish Hyman publicly confronted Black in the women's locker room, shouting objections about Black's presence.
"Grown men with big d**ks [are] in the women's locker room," Hyman yelled, adding, "And I want to make sure the girls know," as she was being removed from the gym.
Black, who previously went by Grant Freeman, said the encounter in the locker room left her feeling disrespected but noted this was not the first confrontation with Hyman. She stated, "She didn't want to do introductions."
Black began her hormonal transition in February before moving to Los Angeles. She has been using the women's changing room since starting estrogen and progesterone treatments. Open about her transition, Black has discussed it with several women in the changing rooms while working out at Gold's Gym, now owned by EoS Fitness.
Originally from Ohio, Black is a divorcee and a former DJ.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions around transgender women’s access to women's locker rooms, emphasizing personal stories behind public disputes.
