Gabagool & Pickleball: Soprano’s Star Joins CCARC Event

NEW BRITAIN — The New Britain CCARC hosted an exciting pickleball event this past weekend, attracting more than a dozen participants for a fun-filled morning. The event took place at Club Pickleball inside the Meriden Mall, welcoming attendees of all ages with special needs. The club generously provided the courts and equipment.

The Center for Community Resources, located on Slater Road, supports individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities from the surrounding areas, regardless of age or gender. This nonprofit is nearing its 80th year of service.

Anthony Gionfriddo, director of the Beautiful Lives Project, coordinated the event. Participants enjoyed trying their hand at the rapidly growing sport with enthusiasm and bright smiles.

“What a fantastic morning as these folks have a chance to be part of this sport, and you can see the energy they all have and can’t wait to get on the courts. This is their time to shine, look at those smiles,” Gionfriddo said.

Surprising attendees, Gionfriddo brought a special guest instructor, Joseph R. Gannascoli, best known as Vito from The Sopranos. Gannascoli shared his pickleball expertise on the court and later participated in a meet-and-greet with photo signings.

Summary: The New Britain CCARC's pickleball event brought joy to participants with disabilities, highlighted by a special visit from Joseph R. Gannascoli, fostering community spirit and inclusion.
