Amanda Anisimova bounced back from an opening loss to overcome fellow American Madison Keys in three sets, setting up a decisive clash with Iga Swiatek for a place in the WTA Finals semifinals.
Playing in their first career meeting, Anisimova rallied to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, keeping her semifinal hopes alive in Riyadh. With this defeat, Keys exited the tournament after two losses.
With two matches completed in the Serena Williams Group, Elena Rybakina secured her spot in the semifinals after a comeback win over Swiatek, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. Rybakina leads the group with a 2-0 record, while Anisimova and Swiatek, both at 1-1, will meet to decide the second semifinalist.
“That was a collective decision,” said Bjorn Fratangelo, Keys’ coach and husband, describing their immediate return to practice after the opening loss.
Anisimova’s determined comeback keeps her WTA Finals hopes alive, while Keys exits the event, leaving Rybakina and Swiatek in contention for the remaining semifinal spot.
