First Alert: Winter Blast to Bring Accumulating Snow

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) — Wet conditions continue early as morning rain gradually tapers off with a passing system. By afternoon, temperatures drop into the 30s behind the front, bringing scattered lake-effect snow showers with light accumulation between a quarter and half an inch.

A large cold air mass will settle in this weekend as an upper-level low moves through the jet stream, marking the first strong taste of winter. Temperatures will stay in the 30s, and accumulating lake-effect snow is expected.

TV6 First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Sunday through Monday morning.

Drivers should anticipate slick, snow-covered roads, especially across the Northern Upper Peninsula. In areas including Gogebic, Ontonagon, Marquette, and Alger counties, where lake-effect bands are strongest, snowfall totals could reach 4 to 6 inches.

The active pattern will persist into next week, with continued chances for snow showers and colder air.
