Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning for areas including Metro Vancouver, the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound.

“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said ECCC.

“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Local utility outages are possible.”

Michael Kuss, meteorologist at 1130 NewsRadio, notes that the heaviest rain is expected during Thursday's afternoon commute.

The agency has also issued a wind warning for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island.

Winds may reach speeds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour, and residents are advised to secure loose objects.

The winds are predicted to ease by evening.
