Georgian Police Raid Targets Criminal Underworld

A special operation against members of the criminal underworld in eastern Georgia concluded with a fierce shootout involving special forces, the Interior Ministry of Georgia reported.

Shootout and Casualties

Mirza Aliyev, 52, opened fire on a special forces officer in the village of Kabali, Lagodekhi municipality, seriously wounding him in the chest. Aliyev was subsequently shot dead during the incident, according to Caliber.Az, citing Georgian media.

Arrests and Charges

The operation led to the arrest of 34 individuals connected to the criminal underworld. Additionally, seven others—including one “thief-in-law” and two convicts—were charged in absentia. The suspects face up to 15 years in prison. They are accused of mediating financial disputes for personal gain and orchestrating criminal settlements in Georgia.
