Salman Mirza, also known as Salman Lassi, has a decade-long criminal record involving 16 cases including murder, attempted murder, and extortion. He was evading arrest in connection with the murder of a youth at Unn on October 24.
Surat Crime Branch officers acted on a tip-off and reached Ashiyana Street in Dabhel village, Navsari. The police cordoned off a suspicious house and asked neighbors to remain quiet. It was learned that Mirza was hiding in the back room while his family stayed in the front room.
Police identified six possible houses where Mirza might have been hiding. After checking one house without success, they approached the second. When asked about Salman, a woman denied his presence. Meanwhile, Mirza attempted to flee through the back door, where police were already positioned.
“The cops told him to surrender, but he refused and took out a knife and tried to assault a police inspector, PK Sodha. In self defence, Sodha fired from his pistol at his right leg and injured him.”
The police overpowered and arrested Mirza after he was shot in the leg by Inspector Sodha in self-defense.
Summary: Experienced gangster Salman Mirza was shot in the leg by police while attempting to flee arrest and assault an officer during a raid in Navsari.
