Top Lieutenant of Gangster Gaja Marne Arrested After Four Years on the Run

Gangster Sunil Bansode, a senior aide to gang leader Gajanan alias Gaja Marne, was arrested by Pune City police late Tuesday after evading capture for four years. He was booked under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act in 2021.

Bansode’s arrest follows the October 27 capture of Rupesh Marne, 41, another henchman of Gaja Marne. Rupesh was caught in Mulshi, Pune, after being on the run for eight months. He is linked to the assault on IT engineer and supporter of Murlidhar Mohol, Devendra Jog, that occurred in February this year.

Bansode was apprehended in the Warje area of Pune by the Zone 3 police team, acting on intelligence about his presence there. The arrest took place during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

“So now both his henchmen and sharpshooters, Rupesh Marne and Bansode, are behind bars,” said Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3.

Gajanan Marne, currently imprisoned, faces nearly 30 serious criminal cases. He attracted media attention in February 2021 when a rally of dozens of luxury cars was organized in his support along the Mumbai Expressway following his release from Taloja Prison.

Summary: Sunil Bansode, a key associate of gangster Gaja Marne, was captured after four years on the run, highlighting continued police efforts to dismantle the gang's leadership.
