German rider Richard Vogel claimed the top prize of the €106,500 purse riding Gangster Montdésir in a field of 40 competitors on Grégory Bodo’s course.
On Friday evening at Longines Equita Lyon, the dressage riders made way for the show-jumpers in the International Arena at Eurexpo. Vogel, who won last year’s Longines FEI World Cup™ Grand Prix in Lyon, triumphed again in the CSI 5*-W Longines Grand Prix with the Selle Français horse Gangster Montdésir.
The French designer Grégory Bodo laid out a demanding course featuring 13 obstacles and 16 jumping efforts. Of the 49 starters, only 11 pairs managed a clear round in the initial phase.
France’s Jeanne Sadran, riding the explosive Dexter de Kerglenn, was the first to go in the jump-off, replicating her clear round with a time of 42.96 seconds. Ultimately, she finished fifth.
Richard Vogel and his nine-year-old bay Gangster Montdésir, teammates since September, moved into first place, marking their first 1.60m Grand Prix together.
The pair have shown consistent strong performances since their partnership began, cementing their status on the international stage.
