Jay Som, the musical project of Melina Duterte, will release a new album titled Belong on November 7. Ahead of its launch, Duterte unveiled the single “Past Lives,” featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore. The collaboration was recorded in Nashville with producer Steph Marziano.
Williams’ gentle harmonies amplify the emotional weight of “Past Lives,” a track exploring the ebb and flow of personal momentum, the melancholy of drifting, and the quiet strength found in reflection. The song’s subdued midsection evokes a struggle between resilience and self-doubt.
“It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of ‘Float.’ I still can’t believe it happened,” Duterte said. “She’s one of the kindest artists out there, and she graciously uplifts everyone around her. We’re so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”
Belong includes contributions from Joao Gonzalez (Soft Glas), Mal Hauser (Mk.gee, Illuminati Hotties), Steph Marziano (Vundabar, Hot Wax, Sir Chloe), and Kyle Pulley. For the first time, Duterte also welcomed guest vocalists to join her on several tracks.
Jay Som’s Belong blends introspection with collaboration, highlighted by Hayley Williams’ moving feature on “Past Lives,” a track steeped in emotional momentum and quiet power.
