Jay Som and Hayley Williams Release “Past Lives” Video Ahead of Pitchfork London

Jay Som has unveiled the video for "Past Lives", her collaboration with Hayley Williams of Paramore, ahead of her performance at Pitchfork Festival London on Saturday, November 8. The song appears on her first album in over six years, Belong, and has quickly become a fan favourite — a slow-burning indie highlight.

The animated video, directed by Daniel Topete, visualizes the track’s meditative mood with vivid, swirling imagery. Released earlier this year on Lucky Number, Belong marks a confident return for Jay Som after stepping back from solo work. Since 2019’s Anak Ko, she has quietly built an impressive résumé as a producer and engineer on projects with Boygenius, Lucy Dacus, Troye Sivan and Beabadoobee, even joining Boygenius on tour to contribute live guitar and vocals.

Critics have warmly received Belong, highlighting its depth and emotional clarity.

Reflecting on the project, Jay Som (Melina Duterte) said the album explores her journey of self-discovery after a time away from the spotlight.

“Belong is about trying to find where I fit after stepping away for a while.” — Melina Duterte
