Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings faced online backlash after an October 24 episode included a clue calling the viral meme character John Pork "AI-generated."
John Pork, a figure with the head of a pig and a human body, has appeared on platforms like Instagram and TikTok since at least 2018. Despite the recent rise of AI-generated content, John Pork existed well before this trend.
In the game category titled “Daddy, Is There Really A…,” the clue describing John Pork as AI-generated sparked criticism, with viewers dismissing the claim as hogwash. John Pork is currently considered "deceased" online for unrelated reasons, yet the character remains part of internet culture.
“When we played a clue recently on Jeopardy! on John Pork, I remarked that I didn’t understand a word of it,” Jennings said in a social media video addressing the reaction.
Jennings admitted confusion about the meme during the show and acknowledged that only those deeply engaged online would recognize and care about the inaccuracy.
Despite the AI mislabeling, John Pork will likely continue to appear on the internet, even as technology evolves with innovations like multipurpose robots.
This incident highlights how internet culture and meme knowledge can challenge traditional media, prompting hosts like Jennings to publicly clarify misunderstandings.
