At a November 5 screening of her new film Eternity, Elizabeth Olsen revealed to PEOPLE the daily practice that keeps her centered. For the past three years, the actress-producer writes in a journal every morning, describing it as a way to slow down her thoughts.
“You slow down your thoughts, I think, when you start writing by hand.”
Olsen, 36, calls journaling an essential part of her self-care routine. Sometimes she writes about what happened the previous day or her current reading material. She explains that her journaling covers a variety of topics and serves as a method to calm her mind.
“Sometimes it's just what happened yesterday. Sometimes it's about what I'm reading. It’s kind of everything.”
She adds, “Mostly, it’s just a way to slow everything down.”
For roles ranging from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to her new romantic fantasy film Eternity, Olsen finds that journaling sparks discoveries important to her work.
“It's really helpful for work. I have three different journals. I have a work journal that's separate for [creating a] character.”
Elizabeth Olsen’s consistent journaling habit nurtures both her personal wellness and professional creativity.
