Ismael Bonfim failed to make weight at the official UFC Vegas 111 weigh-ins, coming in 5 pounds over the lightweight limit. The fighter registered at 161 pounds, exceeding the 156-pound lightweight cut-off including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights.
This marks the second time Bonfim has missed weight in his UFC career. He also missed weight by 3.5 pounds in a scheduled fight against Vinc Pichel at UFC Sao Paulo in November 2023. Pichel declined to fight, stating:
“I decided to take away his ability to fight and make money.”
Bonfim’s opponent for this event, Chris Padilla, made weight successfully at 155 pounds. The fight will proceed at a catchweight, with Bonfim fined 25% of his purse as a penalty.
The main event welterweight bout between Gabriel Bonfim and Randy Brown is confirmed. Gabriel weighed in at 170.5 pounds, and Brown at 171 pounds.
Aside from Ismael Bonfim, all other 23 fighters competing at UFC Vegas 111 made weight successfully.
Ismael Bonfim’s failure to make weight casts a shadow over UFC Vegas 111, while his brother Gabriel and most fighters are set and ready for the event.
