Nikita Zadorov is a player you don’t want to challenge, on the ice or social media. New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer discovered this the hard way during a game Thursday night at UBS Arena when Boston Bruins’ Zadorov delivered a powerful hit.
About halfway through the second period, with the Islanders leading 1-0, Zadorov finished a forceful check by driving Schaefer into the boards. As Schaefer rose, he still held Zadorov’s stick. In response, Zadorov pushed him back down onto the ice, sparking a melee as players in blue and orange rushed to aid the rookie.
Zadorov received a minor penalty for interference and a double minor for roughing following the play.
“I looked at my PIMs from last year,” Zadorov joked to reporters on Long Island after the game. “I need to get them up this year.”
Following the hit, Islanders fans flooded Zadorov’s Instagram direct messages, defending him and reacting to the physical display of dominance on the ice.
Nikita Zadorov’s aggressive play not only impacted the game physically but also stirred strong reactions from fans online, highlighting his tough presence on and off the ice.
Author’s note: Zadorov’s intimidation tactics continue to shape his reputation as a formidable force in the NHL, admired by some and challenged by others.
