Social media's latest trend involves claiming that celebrities in their 30s have become unrecognizable due to plastic surgery. More often than not, these accusations are exaggerated.
There are countless frustrating things on the internet, but one annoying trend recently has been the “new face” talk dominating the celebrity rumor mill in 2025. Whenever a famous person appears looking slightly different than before, social media floods with videos and comments asserting they must have had multiple plastic surgeries and now look “unrecognizable.”
These accusations typically target women who might have changed a bit over time but still largely resemble their previous selves. Calling these changes surgical “transformations” is a stretch without proof.
“...we’re so quick to use a term as extreme as ‘new face’ to describe anyone whose look seems to have changed for reasons we can’t know is a sign of something more concerning: that we’ve become willing to disconnect ourselves from reality to justify our continued shaming of women’s appearances.”
The rush to label minor changes in celebrities' looks as drastic surgical transformations reflects a deeper issue of harsh and unrealistic judgments on women's appearances.
