Newcastle United announced that Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone has been placed on gardening leave after nearly three years with the Premier League club. Silverstone, who previously worked at Arsenal and later joined from OneFootball in 2022, is expected to become Juventus’ new Chief Business Officer once his leave ends.
His exit is the latest in a series of changes within Newcastle’s leadership structure. Following Darren Eales’ departure due to health concerns, David Hopkinson was recently appointed as the club’s new CEO.
The sporting department has also seen frequent turnover. Since the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s 2021 takeover, the position of Sporting Director has shifted between Dan Ashworth, Paul Mitchell, and most recently Ross Wilson, who arrived from Nottingham Forest.
“Newcastle’s ownership group wants to push the club into Europe’s elite, and the foundation for that success begins in the boardroom.”
While the ambition for top-level European competition remains clear, the constant restructuring may have slowed aspects of the club’s development, especially its commercial expansion.
Peter Silverstone departs Newcastle to join Juventus, marking another major change in Newcastle’s evolving executive structure since the Saudi takeover.
