Switzerland tops IMD’s 2025 Digital Competitiveness Ranking

Switzerland Leads IMD’s 2025 Digital Competitiveness Ranking

Switzerland retains its position as the most digitally competitive economy globally in the 2025 IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR), ahead of the United States and Singapore. The ranking, published annually by the Lausanne-based Institute for Management Development (IMD), evaluates 69 countries on their capacity to adopt and leverage digital technologies for economic and social progress.

Ranking Overview

Challenges Ahead

IMD experts caution that rising trade fragmentation and evolving regulatory environments may pose risks to Switzerland’s digital leadership.

“Digitally speaking, Switzerland has experienced two important developments so far this year: the cataclysmic effects of tariff changes and the approval of e-ID by a razor-thin margin (50.4% in favor),” said Arturo Bris, Director of IMD’s World Competitiveness Center (WCC). “It’s clear that the Swiss aren’t as prepared as we might have hoped to embrace the challenges of technology today.”

Impact of Global Trade Tensions

Trade tensions increasingly restrict data flows, technical standards, and investment priorities, all of which influence digital competitiveness around the world.
