Josh Hutcherson joined Rachel Sennott’s HBO comedy “I Love LA” later in production, taking over the role of Maia’s longtime live-in boyfriend after the initial pilot had already been filmed. Despite joining mid-process, Hutcherson worked closely with Sennott and co-showrunner Emma Barrie to redefine his character.
“We very quickly all got on the same page, which was we didn’t want Dylan to just be the square, the boring, nothing guy,” Hutcherson told TheWrap. “We wanted to find some textures to him that felt funny and dynamic and different, rather than something that we’ve seen before.”
Originally portrayed by Miles Robbins in the pilot episode, the character of Dylan evolved significantly under Hutcherson’s interpretation. The creative team explored Dylan’s core motivations, personality, and relationship with Maia, giving the character more depth than what was initially written.
Author Summary: Hutcherson reimagined his "I Love LA" role to bring emotional depth and individuality, ensuring his character stood out beyond typical romantic-comedy stereotypes.
