Toyota’s best-selling ute has been leaked online just hours before the official unveiling, showing a drastically revamped model. Images posted on Instagram by bfmsoficial were taken from a video initially published by Auto Societies before its embargo expired but later removed.
The new HiLux retains the platform and cabin structure from the A- to C-pillars, identical to the current version. However, it features a completely redesigned front with slim headlights, a squared-off grille, and sharp edges. The rear end appears more rugged, sporting a tailgate stamped with the word TOYOTA.
Several variants of the new HiLux—known as the HiLux Travo in Thailand—have been spotted. These include the ‘Prerunner,’ ‘Overland,’ ‘4Trex,’ and a suspected electric model called the ‘Travo-e.’
Except for the electric version, all models seem to use a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, likely the same ‘1GD-FTV’ unit found in the Australian HiLux lineup.
Australian government approval documents have previously shown the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel for upcoming models.
This update marks a significant evolution in the HiLux design while maintaining proven mechanical elements.
The leaked new Toyota HiLux reveals a bold new design and multiple variants, including an electric model, while largely retaining its current chassis and renowned diesel engine.
