BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has begun a demanding 135‑mile journey to raise money for Children in Need. The Bolton-born DJ will move on foot through Northern England over five days, starting in Kielder Forest near the Scottish border and finishing in Pudsey, Leeds, on Friday, November 14.
The project, called the “Great Northern Marathon Challenge,” will take Sara across four counties—Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. Unlike her fellow presenter Paddy McGuinness, who cycled for the charity last year and raised £10 million, Sara is taking on the challenge entirely on foot.
“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”
Throughout the journey, she will carry the Pudsey Bear mascot to symbolically deliver it to its namesake town in Leeds just in time for the live BBC One Children in Need broadcast on Friday night.
