Two-time Olympian and third for John Shuster, Chris Plys, approaches the U.S. Olympic Curling Team Trials with quiet confidence. The event will determine who represents the United States men’s team at December’s Olympic Qualification Event and the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina.
Before competing at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and the Olympic Qualification Event 2025 in Kelowna, Canada, Plys and his team must first succeed at the U.S. Trials. This five-day competition pits the nation’s top men’s and women’s curling teams against each other to crown a champion.
The winner will then face the challenge of securing one of the final two quota spots for the team events in the upcoming Winter Games scheduled for February.
At 38 years old, Plys brings experience from his previous Olympic appearances in Vancouver 2010 and Beijing 2022. Reflecting on the upcoming trials, he expressed a mix of anticipation and excitement.
“The challenge is exciting, even with the recent injury backdrop, I feel ready to compete at my best,” Plys shared at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) summit in New York last October.
The U.S. Olympic Curling Team Trials mark a critical step for Chris Plys and his team as they aim to earn their place at the Olympic Qualification Event and ultimately compete in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
Author’s note: Chris Plys approaches the Olympic trials with steadfast confidence, balancing past experience and current challenges as he seeks to help secure the U.S. team’s spot for the 2026 Winter Games.
