Ex-BBC Radio 1 breakfast presenter's Children in Need challenge is coming Ripley's way

Ex-BBC Radio 1 Presenter’s Children in Need Challenge Stops in Ripley

Sara Cox, former BBC Radio 1 breakfast show presenter and current BBC Radio 2 drivetime host, is undertaking a 135-mile walk and run challenge for Children in Need. Starting from Kielder Forest in the North, she will make her way to Pudsey in Leeds to raise funds for the annual charity appeal.

Born in Lancashire, Cox will stop in Ripley as part of her Great Northern Marathon Challenge. She is expected to arrive at Ripley Town Hall on Thursday, November 13, between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm. The hall, now community-owned after a £400,000 buyout earlier this year, will open its bar to offer hot drinks and refreshments to the celebrity presenter.

"Sara Cox first rose to fame when she replaced Zoe Ball as presenter of the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show in December 1999. She quickly grew listening figures from 6.9 million to 7.8 million listeners, earning Radio 1 its largest ever breakfast audience."

With nearly 30 years in broadcasting, Cox’s goal is to personally deliver the Children in Need mascot, Pudsey Bear, to the town of Pudsey, marking the final stage of her journey.

The live Children in Need event will air on Friday, November 14, with Sara’s progress being tracked by BBC Radio 2.
