Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen appeared on MSNBC's Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace to criticize President Donald Trump for refusing to protect affordable health care and for contributing to the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown.
Senator Rosen emphasized the importance of extending the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits to maintain health care affordability for many families. A recent analysis by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation revealed that health care premiums for working families could more than double if these tax credits are not renewed this year.
In Nevada, nearly 95,000 people rely on these credits directly to make health care affordable.
“Donald Trump is in charge of the White House. He’s actually Speaker of the House these days, as he alleges himself, and he’s pretty much in control of the Senate. He could stop this shutdown right now by calling a group of Democrats and Republicans together to work on preserving the accessibility and affordability of health care for tens of millions of Americans who are about to fall off a cliff at the end of this year. Whether you get your health care on the exchanges or through your employer, everybody’s healthcare is going up.”
Senator Rosen urges immediate bipartisan action led by President Trump to prevent a health care crisis caused by expiring ACA tax credits and to end the government shutdown.
