The Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) announced that, for the first time this school year, all school bus services are cancelled on Monday for Peterborough City and County, Northumberland, and Clarington.
The decision follows the recent storm and the resulting slippery and icy road conditions, which have made driving unsafe across much of the region.
Drivers who must travel are advised to prepare carefully for the conditions. The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) recommends keeping an emergency kit in every vehicle during winter months.
“Always keep an emergency kit in your car in case you break down somewhere,” says Kevin Puckett.
According to Puckett, essential items include blankets, water, flashlights, and other supplies that can help in an emergency. He also emphasized that using snow tires and keeping washer fluid topped up greatly improve safety and performance during snowy weather.
Bus service across multiple Ontario regions was halted due to icy roads, with officials urging drivers to travel only when necessary and stay prepared for winter hazards.
Author’s note: Regional school bus cancellations highlight the importance of winter driving preparedness amid hazardous weather.
