Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated performer Eddie Izzard will return to Australia in mid-2026 with her acclaimed one-person show, The Tragedy of Hamlet.
In this remarkable production, Eddie Izzard embodies all 23 characters of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy. The show features a bare stage with no elaborate sets, relying solely on Shakespeare’s words and Izzard’s storytelling prowess.
Known for pushing theatrical boundaries, Izzard has performed marathon stand-up sets in multiple languages and even solo adaptations of Charles Dickens. Playing every character in Hamlet—from men and women to ghosts, scholars, lovers, fools, and poets—demonstrates her extraordinary versatility.
“Prince Hamlet’s quest for revenge after his father’s murder becomes a showcase for Izzard’s versatility as she shifts between men, women, ghosts, scholars, tyrants, courtiers, lovers, fools and poets.”
This minimalistic approach echoes the original Elizabethan performances of Hamlet, stripping away distractions to focus on the power of the story itself.
