CBBC Meets MOFCOM Vice Minister Ling Ji at CIIE

Kiran Patel, Senior Director, Commercial, and Deputy Head of China at the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), participated in a roundtable discussion during the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

He stated:

"British companies remain committed to the Chinese market. In our last member survey, 67% of respondents were optimistic about their business prospects in China over the next 5-10 years, despite current economic challenges and a more complex geopolitical environment."

Patel highlighted recent data from China’s Ministry of Commerce, noting:

"In the first to third quarter of 2025, UK investment into China expanded by 21.1% year-on-year — the third fastest growth among all investing countries during this period."

He added that the renewed engagement between the British and Chinese governments over the past 15 months has steered the bilateral relationship onto a positive path.

This momentum is fostering increased UK-China business activities, with investments growing in the first three quarters of 2025. There is also hope for expanding Chinese investment in the UK going forward.

Author's summary: The UK-China business relationship is gaining strength, with UK investments in China growing significantly and renewed governmental engagement boosting future prospects on both sides.
