Bishop Vincent Harolimana of the Ruhengeri Diocese in Rwanda urged young people to follow the example of Blessed Carlo Acutis, whom he called a model of holiness suited to the digital age. Speaking during a youth gathering, the bishop underlined that Acutis, known as the “digital Apostle,” used online platforms to spread the Gospel message and promote devotion to the Eucharist.
“Carlo Acutis demonstrates that technology and faith can go hand in hand. He reminds us that young people can use digital tools to share goodness, not just entertainment,” said Bishop Harolimana.
The bishop encouraged Rwandan youth to imitate Acutis’s love for the Eucharist, his devotion to prayer, and his willingness to serve others. He highlighted the young Italian’s ability to transform social media and technology into means of evangelization and hope.
Born in 1991 and beatified in 2020, Carlo Acutis was passionate about computer programming and web design. He used his skills to create websites that documented Eucharistic miracles around the world, inspiring millions to rediscover faith in Christ’s Real Presence.
“He showed that holiness does not depend on age or status. Every young person can become a witness of faith today,” the bishop said.
Bishop Harolimana invited students and young professionals to treat the Internet as a space for creativity, dialogue, and moral awakening. He emphasized that digital platforms can become tools for unity, compassion, and missionary work when guided by Christian values.
The event concluded with prayers for the canonization of Carlo Acutis and blessings for young people in Rwanda to become “digital missionaries” who use technology for truth and peace.
“Let your online presence be a light,” the bishop reminded, echoing Carlo’s own motto: ‘To be always united with Jesus is my life’s plan.’
